Darke County Park District
Nature Center
This building is a 6,800-square-foot nature center at the district's 120-acre Shawnee
Prairie Preserve just west of the city of Greenville off State Route 502. The Nature
Center contains a nature library, exhibit and observation areas, a classroom, and a
science laboratory for use by students, teachers, and visitors. The Center also features a
large assembly/conference room, a small gift shop, audiovisual projection room, and park
administration offices.

Coppess Nature Sanctuary
This 32-acre park located between Ansonia and Union City on Young Road south of State
Route 47 is a typical Darke County woodland with a diverse mixture of hickory, oak, beech,
and maple featuring a well-marked, half-mile walkway. It is also the park district's
spring wildflower site.
Routzong Preserve
A 51-acre wooded preserve located on Routzong Road five miles southeast of Greenville off
State Route 571 featuring various paths which wind across the gently rolling land.
Shawnee Prairie Preserve
Located on State Route 502, this park is the site of the Park District's new nature
center. It features wetlands, prairie areas and succession woods.
Tecumseh Point
A triangular shaped tract of land featuring a walkway highlighted with historical markers
noting the significance of the land in America's history. Located just across the North
Broadway Bridge in Greenville.
The Alice Bish Walkway
A partially developed nature and walking trail that may be reached from Ohio Street in
Greenville.
Golfing
Beechwood Golf Course
An 18-hole, par 72 golf course featuring water on 11 holes and a 9 hole, par 36 golf
course. Clubhouse features a pro shop and dining facilities for up to 200. The clubhouse
hosts banquets December-February.

YMCA of Darke County
The mission of the YMCA is to develop the whole person -- spirit,
mind and body -- through character development programs that reinforce
Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility
and faith and that build strong kids, strong families and strong
communities. YMCA facilities feature a swimming pool, weight room,
aerobic room, cardio strength center, running track, gymnasium,
and full service licensed childcare centers. The Greenville facility
also features a youth gym, wellness center, indoor cycling studio,
sauna, whirlpool, steam room, cardio-strength center, and teen

Darke County Fair
The Greatest County Fair in the World features a huge midway, numerous 4-H activities,
free entertainment, harness racing, a demolition derby, tractor pull, motorcycle races and
much more during its nine-day run starting the third Friday of August each year.

Fort Jefferson
Originally General St. Clair's outpost in 1791, this area is now a state park with
historic markers located five miles south of Greenville off State Route 121.
Greenville City Park
With more than 100 acres of park grounds, Greenville's city parks offer just about
everything for the visitor. Included in the park are seven fishing lakes that do not
require a fishing license, a city pool that features a 150-foot water slide, three ball
fields, nine tennis courts, an athletic field complete with a six-lane all-weather track,
18 horseshoe courts, shuffleboard courts, 10 covered shelters, playground equipment, the
famous swinging bridge over Greenville Creek, and the Altar of Peace.

Garst Museum
This Darke County Historical Society museum features memorabilia about Annie Oakley and
world famous radio broadcaster Lowell Thomas, along with historic artifacts relating to
Anthony Wayne and the Treaty of Greene Ville, and Native American artifacts. Other wings
in the museum include a village of shops, a wing of early American furnishings, pioneer
life, and military uniforms, as well as an early Indianapolis 500 race car built in
Greenville. Also featured is a small gift shop and an extensive genealogy room for
research. Admission to the museum is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, $1 for school-age
children and free for children under school-age. .

Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall
Built in 1910 this grand building is the center for the arts in Darke County. Also housed
in this building are the Anna Bier Gallery which features art work during the year and the
Civic Room. Located on West Fourth Street in Greenville, this fine piece of architecture
has been completely remodeled and is a showpiece for all of Darke County.
