Teen Leadership Academy

Teen Leadership Week will be held June 17 - 21, 2002.  The mission of Teen Leadership is to expose teens, ages 16 - 19, from schools in Darke County to all the wonderful resources that exist in their own backyard.   Site visits to several area businesses are planned.  Teens will see leadership skills in action when they meet community leaders who embody traits such as character, responsibility, self-esteem and respect.  Applications for Teen Leadership are available by calling the Chamber office at 937-548-2102.

The Reality Store

The Reality Store is a cooperative program between the Chamber, OSU Extension and Bradford Elementary School.  Fourth and fifth grade students from Bradford, Gettysburg and Covington will take part in this interactive program designed to introduce the concepts of budgeting and money management.  Using "stores" set up by local business leaders, students are given a career, salary and family demographics.  Students must develop a one-month budget based on this information, visiting the various "stores" to learn how much needs to be set aside for housing, food, transportation, taxes, clothing, etc. 

Darke County Area Job Fair

Thursday, May 9, at the Darke County Jobs and Family Services One-Stop Center on Wagner Avenue in Greenville.  Held in sponsorship with DCJFS.

Mastering the Art of Selling Seminar

Thursday, April 18, from 8 a.m. until noon at Springhall Learning Center.  $55 for Chamber members and employees.  $75 for non-Chamber businesses.  Attendees will learn: the 14 traits of top salespeople; the selling process, overcoming rejection and redefining failure; why people buy; prospect classifications; the initial contact; getting past the receptionist; presentation and delivery styles; asking questions and ascertaining agreement; responding to the most common objections; proven closing techniques; benefits versus features; and prospecting.

Small Business Recognition Luncheon

Thursday, April 4, 11:30 a.m. at the Greenville Country Club.  $10 per person.  Recognition awards to small business retention and expansion projects, new businesses.

Lunch with Congressman John Boehner

Friday, April 12, at noon at the Greenville Country Club.  $12.50 per person.  Legislative update on federal issues.

Coffee With Sheriff Toby Spencer

Thursday, April 25, at 8 a.m. at Montage.  Part of the Small Business Council's monthly Coffees with elected officials representing Darke County.

Annual Chamber Meeting and Dinner

Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. at All Seasons Place.   $20 per person.  Reservations by April 25 to the Darke County Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 237, Greenville,OH 45331.
